Spring in the PA Wilds means awakening from the long winter hibernation, and getting ready to start a new season full of adventures and exploration.
Spring clean up isn’t just for your home, local areas could likely use some clean up as well. Volunteer in your area at a local clean up, or start your own by finding a local spot, take a trash bag, and clean up trash, making the area clean, beautiful and inviting for the season. You can also check out our volunteer guide, for specific volunteer opportunities in your area. You can even find a new travel destination, and find clean up efforts in that area, maybe even making a new yearly tradition in the process. It takes a village to keep our local areas and State Parks clean and ready for guests, and you can be a part of that effort! The PA Wilds provides so much beautiful scenery and landscapes, it’s so very important we keep it free of debris and trash, keeping our wildlife safe, and the area clean for visitors for years to come. Also being conscious of the pack in pack out method when you visit the PA Wilds can help reduce the amount of clean up that will need to be done, together, we can reduce the amount of pollution in these areas.

Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful, is an amazing resource that empowers PA residents to keep their communities clean and beautiful. To date, over 161,786,101 pounds of trash has been properly disposed thanks to over 2,884,064 volunteers, that’s some impressive numbers! That is the entire state coming together to really do something great, and it is going to take continued efforts to keep those numbers growing. Getting our landscape and waterways clean is vital to keeping the PA Wilds beautiful as we know it.
In 1945, Pennsylvania state legislators recognized the need to support grass-roots conservation efforts. As a result, the Conservation District Law was passed, and county conservation districts were created. Today there is a conservation district established in every Pennsylvania county except Philadelphia. Each county has its own designated website designated to conservation efforts in that area. Feel free to check those out, to see how you can take part, and make those areas the best they can be.
