Encompassing 800 square miles in northcentral Pennsylvania, the Allegheny National Forest is part of the Pennsylvania Wilds region, which is one of the biggest blocks of green between New York City and Chicago. "Pennsylvania Wilds: Images from the Allegheny National Forest" celebrates this national forest, which is one of only 15 in the eastern United States.
In a story by Lisa Gensheimer, the transformative power of nature and rich cultural heritage of the Allegheny National Forest region are on display in a story of survival and unfolding drama spanning millions of years from Native Americans following receding glaciers to the pioneers of today who call the Pennsylvania Wilds home.
This 144-page hardcover book, published in January 2006, includes more than 100 exquisite photographs taken by Ed Bernik and a foreword by Jonathan Tourtellot of the National Geographic Society. The enclosed interactive Forest Companion CD has a sample of the 50 must-see attractions in the area and a bird's-eye view of the biology, geology and history of the Allegheny National Forest region.
This book truly belongs in the homes of all who love the outdoors!
